The mission of the Salt Lake City Department of Airports is to develop and manage a system of airports, owned by Salt Lake City, which provides quality transportation facilities and services to optimize convenience, safety and efficiency for aviation customers. No local tax dollars are being spent on the project. The project is being funded by savings, user fees, rental car fees and airport revenue bonds. SLC is currently undergoing a $5.1 billion redevelopment program, the first phase of which was completed in 2020. More than 300 flights depart daily to 90 nonstop destinations. SLC is the 21st busiest airport in the United States and the 47th busiest in the world. The department also operates South Valley Regional and Tooele Valley Airports. Salt Lake City's Mayor, the City Council and a 11-member advisory board of citizen volunteers oversee its affairs. The Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC) is operated and managed by the Salt Lake City Department of Airports, a department of Salt Lake City Corporation.
